The Egyptian Clothing bank broadened its operations to include recycling of non-harmful solid waste
The Egyptian Clothing Bank has broadened its operations to include not only clothing and fabric waste but also non-harmful solid waste. This expansion reflects our dedication to sustainability and our commitment to addressing various forms of waste. We have implemented a dedicated sorting process specifically for various non harmful solid waste materials (Others). This includes items such as glass, wood, plastic, rubber, and more, which are essential for effective waste management and recycling. The Engineering and Innovation Department at ECB is dedicated to finding circular solutions for solid waste aiming to minimize the environmental harm that such waste can cause.
Through innovative practices, we transform those materials into usable products, which are then redistributed to our beneficiaries to fulfill their needs.
Some examples of solid waste that was turned to a new sustainable product:
Tori is greatly influenced by Japan's Tori gates. The Tori chair, which was designed to symbolise the renewal and transition into a new phase of life, is made of a table top that has been used as the back and broken bedframe parts that have been sawed and aligned to form the legs and seating, giving the chair the shape of the fabled Tori gates of Japan.Tori is greatly influenced by Japan's Tori gates. Plume derives its name from both the form and the materials that go into making it. With a vintage tabletop roundtable perched on ball bearings to produce a slow lazy suzan-esque spinning top, two old and used car filters lie on the bottom, taking the shape of a big plume of billowing smoke.Plume derives its name from both the form and the materials that go into making it. This side table gets its name from the long, metal legs that rise up from the bottom to the top, resembling the Overlooking chesspiece that watches over the edge of the battlefield. made from an old chess board that was thrown away, with the metal legs from an unfinished furniture piece and a thicker hardwood support at the bottom acquired from our wooden scraps.
